Many Chevy Volt owners in California have been disappointed to learn that they were not allowed to drive in the state’s HOV lanes without a passenger in their cars, an honor the poorly-named Nissan Leaf and a small selection of other hybrid vehicles enjoy.
Since California is such a strong market for green vehicles, Chevy has produced a special California-only Volt that will emit less toxic emissions meeting the green ticket standards, the ticket allowing it to use HOV lanes sans passengers. Golden state buyers will benefit from more than the use of these special lanes; they’ll also receive a $1,500 rebate from the state. That’s a good portion of your car loan down payment!
Last year, 7,671 Chevy Volts were sold, while Nissan moved 9,674 Leafs. Sixty percent of all Leaf sales were made in California.
