Make Sure Your Used Vehicle is Insured Before Driving!

Striking a blow for lovers of common sense and freedom across the nation, a California Court has ruled that Mercury, an online auto insurance provider, was not liable for an accident involving a car that one of its policyholders had just sold.

The ruling should remind California drivers that they need to make sure that they are covered by a policy before driving a just-purchased vehicle. The Sixth Court of Appeals said that the insurance company was not responsible for the vehicle, even though the title had not yet been turned over to the new owner.

Though the correct ruling was made, this case is especially troubling, with the new owner, Daniel Thiel, becoming a victim when he was stuck by a drunken, uninsured motorist soon after buying the used BMW in 2008.
