Observers and representatives of the California auto insurance industry are urging agents to re-shift their focus to better meet the demands of auto insurance customers who are increasingly going online as they are looking for insurance. With the amount of ad space and radio and television time online insurance companies are getting nowadays, it should come as no surprise that consumers are more likely than ever to use the Internet to compare insurance companies and policies and to even make their insurance purchases.
A recent Western Insurance Agents Association report warned that the Internet is a real threat to the professional health of automobile insurance agents. The WIAA report, along with a comScore report, says that more and more customers are buying insurance online without ever speaking or otherwise communicating with an actual insurance agent. This is the same trend that has brought more auto loan shoppers onto the web. The second report says that from 2009 to 2011, the number of insurance customers who met with an agent face-to-face dropped by six percent.
